HOW GLIDERS FLY!

As you will know, gliders don't have an engine but can stay up in the air through the power of our weather systems. A glider is like any other aircraft when it comes to its controls. A glider has the standard controls of aileron, elevator and rudder which allow roll, pitch and yaw respectively. Gliders are very simple to fly and if you can drive a car you can fly a glider! There are fundamental differences in the way gliders and light aircraft fly but if you continue your experience you'll learn all about this!

HOW TO LEARN

Your first flight will be an unforgettable experience. If you want to continue gliding then you will need to become a member of EGC. Once you are a member you can fly at member rates making learning gliding much more affordable. Your training will begin with an aim to get you to fly solo all on your own. Once you have flown solo your training will still continue as you learn more advanced flying skills.

AFTER SOLO!

The journey doesn't end once you have flown solo. Your main aim now will be to work towards your Bronze 'C' BGA Badge. Once you have this and your Cross-country endorsement you will be free to spread your wings and fly cross-country using only the power of the weather. You can also gain further badges, learn aerobatics or even enter competitions - it's up to you!
